Chana Chaat

This is not a snack that you would really expect when I mention "chaat". Its is a curry which has a great combination with chappathis, Puris and Battura. This recipe reminds of my Mother-in-law. Whenever I prepare this I think of her. Because she was the one who taught me. She knows many North Indian dishes , some I am trying to learn.. to impress my husband (hehe).Chana chaat is the name I had given and is something that can be prepared very quickly with your pressure cooker doing all her job. The crunchiness of the raw onion and smell of lemon juice will surely pin this recipe to your quick & tasty list

Ingredients :
  1. Chana or Chickpeas : 1/2 cup ; soaked overnight
  2. Onion : 2 ; finely chopped
  3. Tomato : 1 ; finely sliced
  4. Chilli powder : 1 tbsp
  5. Turmeric powder : 1/2 tsp
  6. Chaat masala : 1/2 tsp (optional)
  7. Green Chillies : 3-4 ; finely chopped (adjust the count according to spiciness)
  8. Water : 2 cups
  9. Lemon juice : 2-3 tbsp
  10. Coriander leaves : chopped ; a handful
Method :
  1. Take a pressure cooker and add soaked chickpeas, 1 1/2 of onion , 3 green chillies, tomato, chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt and water.
  2. When the chickpeas get cooked after the required whistles, open the cooker.
  3. If water is still there increase the flame and dry it out.
  4. When water is completely drained, pour onto a bowl. Add lemon juice, remaining onion, 1 green chilli and coriander leaves and mix well.
  5. Serve hot
Note :
  • Dont forget to add raw onion, coriander leaves and lemon juice in the end. This dish is nothing without its flavor.
